Well, we’ve had a blast since we’ve last been in touch, performing at Dublin Irish Festival 2014 in Ohio, USA, in Rahden, at the Festival Mediaval in Selb, and finally, Cork Folk Festival 2014.
Here are a few pics of recent events:

We’re heading back out on the road this Friday, 17th October - you can check out the route on our Dates page - and we hope to cross paths with you soon. ‘Til then, best wishes from all the Caras.
Our first batch of Open Air festivals in Germany was a great success - despite the weather! We had a fab time with the Old Blind Dogs at the legendary f60 Celtic festival, and a brilliant reunion with Flook after our last gig together in 2006 at La Nuit Celte in Caussade, France. It was in fact so good to see the Flook boys and gal again, that we decided on the spot (well in the hotel bar, after a very rainy and very enthusiastic encore of Flook- and Cara-Sets with the big band) to do more double bill gigs. We'll keep you posted.
In July we finally played an Open Air festival where it didn't rain. But it wasn't just good weather, no it was the hottest day of the year so far with 36°C and we were grilled alive on stage. But our audience, a very dedicated dancing bunch of 350 happy people who came especially to see us, made us forget about that and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! Oh and we had the first ever hen party at a Cara gig!
Now our next destination this summer...
We have been busy touring in the first three month of 2014! A lot of gigs in the north of Germany, also in Denmark, where we had the pleasure to play at the Strib festival in the lovely town of Midlefart! Luxembourg was also on the list, here are a few pics:
Other highlights included the joint shows with the Broom Bezzums and the Old Blind Dogs. Hendrik Morgenbrodt, our new piper, blended in perfectly, as you can see in the video below:
In the end, we even managed to squeeze in a photo shoot, and now there is one festival left: Magdeburg on the 6th of April, before we take a little break from touring until the end of May!Have a great spring, everybody!
It is with regret that we are announcing the departure of piper Ryan Murphy; Ryan is sorry to leave the band, but as a member of the band Mànran, as well as Cara, it is proving impossible for him to perform in two bands which are both in such high demand. We had 4 great years together, and wish him all the best for the future!
We are delighted, however, to have found a fantastic replacement for Ryan in the shape of a very talented young piper, steeped in Irish traditional music, who is also a pipe maker, able to make and adapt his own pipes. For many years, he has been a fan of the band Cara and their repertoire. Who is this young man, and where was he found? Incredibly, Hendrik Morgenbrodt is a gem in our midst, from Germany – a real bonus for the band in simplifying the rehearsing and touring process.
Right, we are about to start the first tour in 2014. We had a great winter break, with Gudrun and Juergen renovating the house, Ryan touring the Scottish highlands with Manrán and playing a mighty New Years gig for the BBC, Kim doing a great concert with her BIG project youth choir and Rolf relaxing and cooking at home. But now it's time to reunite again and hit the road in Germany and Denmark. Here are the gigs for the first three months of 2014, hope to see some of you on the road!
Happy Christmas to all our friends out there! Thanks for an amazing year! Steffen, our highly talented sound engineer, came up with this:
