Greetings from Down Under!

We are tremendously enjoying our current leg of the anniversary tour in Australia. We are here for a month and we are loving every minute of it.

We started out at The National Folk Festival, Canberra - a unique celebration of life, music and art, where we met with many friends from home and also made lots of new ones. The tour will take us to Sydney, Melbourne, along the South-Eastern coast and finally out to Western Australia where we finish off at Fairbridge Folkfestival.

Stay in touch with us via our Facebook page to get the latest news from the tour!

Happy New Year!

It has arrived, the year 2018 and with it our 15th anniversary as a band and our brand new live album. As some of you already know, we were busy recording some of the concerts on our 2017 tour, and have now compiled our selection of 13 favourites with almost 75 minutes playing time. You can order pre-release copies now in our webshop, buy it at our cd release tour which starts on January 19th, or buy it in shops after its official release on Feb 1st 2018.

  • June 23rd: Folk In The Barn, Gulbenkian, Canterbury

Happy Christmas from CARA!

The New Cara Album

We're now at a very exciting stage in the process of making the new CARA album! We've almostchosen all of the songs and tunes (there are just too many that we all like - so we're recording more than we need), and we've arranged and rehearsed the tracks, so now we're busy recording and mixing them at Juergen's studio in Esslingen. The album is due for release in January 2016 - so watch this space for future updates!
Here are some pics, more are available in our picture section.

Please Note: the album will be available exclusively from our website from 1st December 2015 - so if you've been good, maybe Santa can buy you one! ;)

The second video of our little recording diary gives you a few more insights:

May’s news...

Our creative week in Tuscany was blessed with much sunshine, spectacular views, great cooking from Rolf, and a fair bit of inspiration from having time and space to work together in luxurious surroundings! The tunes and songs for the new album are really developing now - exciting times...
Here a video that gives you some insight on what happened in Italy:

It was lovely to meet some of you during our May tour, which also enabled us to take in the lovely surrounds of Bodensee, sample the locally grown wine in Dexheim, celebrate 10 years of Broom Bezzums with Mark, Andrew and their talented guest performers in Birkenfeld and experience some pretty unusual audience dancing in Sindelfingen ;)

Onwards and upwards: after our next gig in Erfurt on 20th June, we’re heading to the studio to begin working on album arrangements - then the album recording takes place in July, after our performance at Ingelheim Festival on 11th. Wish us luck!

Spring tour over

Well, it was fantastic to meet so many of you out on the road - our St. Patrick’s Day tour was tons of fun, with friendly audiences, unusual venues (including a school, a couple of barns, a church and a cinema!), a couple of relaxing spa days, a trip to the instrument museum in Markneukirchen, and a fantastic birthday celebration for Hendrik!

Now we’re working hard in preparation for our time in Tuscany in May, when we’ll spend a week together in a beautiful location, working on new songs and tunes for our forthcoming album (and enjoying Rolf’s cooking!). Shortly after, we’ll be heading out again in May to perform in Langenargen (13th), Dexheim (14th), Birkenfeld (15th - a shared gig with Broom Bezzums) and Sindelfingen (16th). Hopefully see you soon! Meanwhile, a few insights in the back stage and tour van mayhem of this year's spring tour in our latest tour diary video...also featuring a confetti bomb live on stage!

Cara live in March

The February tour was a blast, thanks to all of you who made it along! You'll have seen Juergen's snazzy new shirts, then...As well as fun gigs, we enjoyed generous hospitality - drinking "the true word of God" in a ceremony after dinner in Oldenburg, and receiving lovely gifts in Twistringen (as well as enjoying table tennis and a sauna in the hotel). Before and after playing in a delightful historic venue in Osdorf, we were fed Gudrun's favourite - tasty, healthy veggie food -  and given a warm welcome by Ursula and Heinrich, and Kim finally succumbed to the delights of German sausage backstage (while playing Battleships) in Kappeln. Steffen helped us celebrate Rolf's birthday with a van full of balloons, a party on the bridge to Denmark, and a surprise confetti bomb on stage in the beautiful venue in Ballerup, and we all enjoyed time in Copenhagen before being made very welcome in Fyn Folk Club, Odense. Fish rolls dominated our visit to Laboe, before returning to the Lutterbeker, where the post gig revelry included singing canons and disco dancing with Hendrik's brother!  It was great fun to perform in Sumpfblume where the audience were fantastically vocal and up for a party - and we finished with standing ovations from a packed house at Uslar!

We're ready to party some more - Kim celebrates her 100th gig with Cara on 17th March, St. Patrick's Day (you'd think we planned that!) and it's Hendrik's birthday on the 19th March. We're in Limbach-Oberfrohna (13th), Oelsnitz/Vogtland (14th), Gefrees (15th), Ansbach (16th), Aschaffenburg (17th), Beitigheim (18th), Göttingen (19th), Neustadt am Rübenberg (20th), and Kellinghusen (21st) - full details on our Dates page. So join the party! Here is the live trailer we produced in January!

Bring on February

It was great to meet some of you out on our snowy January tour! Beyond the welcoming venues and the craic, highlights for us were the extravagant interior of De Kleine Waarheid in Zaandam, two invigorating, friendly sessions in Amsterdam, hostess Marianne’s culinary delights in Darmstadt, shooting film footage for a new promo video, performing again with young Irish band Crosswind, and some crazy clapping patterns from certain audiences!

Coming up in February, we’ll be performing in Oldenburg (13th), Twistringen (14th), Hamburg (15th), Kappeln (16th), Ballerup, Denmark (17th), Odense, Denmark (18th), Lutterbek (19th), Hameln (20th) and Uslar (21st). If you live nearby it would be great to see you at a gig - full details on our Dates page . Until then...

We're really excited to be hitting the road for our January tour this weekend, taking in Krefeld (17th), Zaandam, Netherlands (18th), Bramsche (20th), Freiburg (21st), Reutlingen (22nd), Waiblingen (23rd), Darmstadt (24th) and Dassel (25th). The gig at De Kleine Waarheid in Zaandam, this Saturday, 18th January, will be our only Dutch gig in the first half of 2015, so if you live nearby it would be great to see you there!

Full details on our Dates page - we'll look out for you...

Thanks - best wishes for 2015!

We’d like to say a HUGE thank you to all of you that we met on the road during our autumn tour (and indeed earlier in 2014). We had a fantastic time, and couldn’t do this job without you! Thanks also to the promoters, presenters and venue staff for making us very welcome in such lovely venues...it’s not a bad life!

While touring, we also managed to see a legendary spot, go underground and hike to great heights - for a wee insight into life beyond the gigs, you can check out Kim’s blogs from the tour here. The last post is at the top.

We’d like to wish you a peaceful and happy festive season, and we hope that 2015 brings you all good things...who knows, even before then, Santa may bring you - or your loved ones -  Cara tickets for our upcoming tours?! We’re looking forward to getting out on the road again in January and February - see our dates below. It would be great to see you there!

Cara live on TV

We had the great pleasure of playing live at the SWR public TV station! Have a wee listen here:

Autumn 2014

Well, we’ve had a blast since we’ve last been in touch, performing at Dublin Irish Festival 2014 in Ohio, USA, in Rahden, at the Festival Mediaval in Selb, and finally, Cork Folk Festival 2014.

Here are a few pics of recent events:

We’re heading back out on the road this Friday, 17th October - you can check out the route on our Dates page - and we hope to cross paths with you soon. ‘Til then, best wishes from all the Caras.

Summer 2014

Our first batch of Open Air festivals in Germany was a great success - despite the weather! We had a fab time with the Old Blind Dogs at the legendary f60 Celtic festival, and a brilliant reunion with Flook after our last gig together in 2006 at La Nuit Celte in Caussade, France. It was in fact so good to see the Flook boys and gal again, that we decided on the spot (well in the hotel bar, after a very rainy and very enthusiastic encore of Flook- and Cara-Sets with the big band) to do more double bill gigs. We'll keep you posted.

In July we finally played an Open Air festival where it didn't rain. But it wasn't just good weather, no it was the hottest day of the year so far with 36°C and we were grilled alive on stage. But our audience, a very dedicated dancing bunch of 350 happy people who came especially to see us, made us forget about that and we enjoyed ourselves a lot! Oh and we had the first ever hen party at a Cara gig!

Now our next destination this summer will be Dublin, Ohio! We are incredibly looking forward to this festival, which has been described by many of our musician friends as one of the best festivals on the planet. Bring it on!! And some of our musical heroes and heroines will be there too, to make it an unforgettable weekend.
We are excited to announce that in Dublin Cormac Byrne (Uiscedwr, Seth Lakeman Band) is going to add his bodhrán and percussion to our sound. Cormac will replace Rolf who understandably decided to stay home just a couple of days before the birth of his first child!
Check out the website: http://dublinirishfestival.org/
After Dublin, we'll all take a well deserved rest and chill out for a while, until we hit the road again in September and October, with some more exciting destinations! In the meanwhile enjoy the summer. It's always over so quickly. If you miss us too much, then just put 'Horizon' into the CD player. :)
All the best from all the Caras.

First Gigs in 2014

We have been busy touring in the first three month of 2014! A lot of gigs in the north of Germany, also in Denmark, where we had the pleasure to play at the Strib festival in the lovely town of Midlefart! Luxembourg was also on the list, here are a few pics:
Other highlights included the joint shows with the Broom Bezzums and the Old Blind Dogs. Hendrik Morgenbrodt, our new piper, blended in perfectly, as you can see in the video below:

In the end, we even managed to squeeze in a photo shoot, and now there is one festival left: Magdeburg on the 6th of April, before we take a little break from touring until the end of May!Have a great spring, everybody!

Cara 4.0

ryanquadratsmIt is with regret that we are announcing the departure of piper Ryan Murphy; Ryan is sorry to leave the band, but as a member of the band Mànran, as well as Cara, it is proving impossible for him to perform in two bands which are both in such high demand. We had 4 great years together, and wish him all the best for the future!

We are delighted, however, to have found a fantastic replacement for Ryan in the shape of a very talented young piper, steeped in Irish traditional music, who is also a pipe maker, able to make and adapt his own pipes. For many years, he has been a fan of the band Cara and their repertoire. Who is this young man, and where was he found? Incredibly, Hendrik Morgenbrodt is a gem in our midst, from Germany – a real bonus for the band in simplifying the rehearsing and touring process.

He is 24 years old, just taking his exams as a pipe maker, and will hit the stage with Cara from March 20th onwards.

There will be many opportunities to hear the new line up live across Germany, Europe and the USA 2014, tour dates are here!

First Tour in 2014

Right, we are about to start the first tour in 2014. We had a great winter break, with Gudrun and Juergen renovating the house, Ryan touring the Scottish highlands with Manrán and playing a mighty New Years gig for the BBC, Kim doing a great concert with her BIG project youth choir and Rolf relaxing and cooking at home. But now it's time to reunite again and hit the road in Germany and Denmark. Here are the gigs for the first three months of 2014, hope to see some of you on the road!

Happy Christmas!

Happy Christmas to all our friends out there! Thanks for an amazing year! Steffen, our highly talented sound engineer, came up with this:

Irish Music Magazine about 'Horizon'

The Irish Music Magazine reviewed the new CD 'Horizon'!

Cara, have yet again made an exceptional album full of quality execution, of progressive instrumental vision and a wide sweep of a musical panorama. This album hits the horizon on the first track and then sails beyond into a limitless world of musicality. Captivating.
